Taus Return from Historic Tournament Trip
Auburn - Alpha Epsilon
By Will Blakely Apr 2, 2019
This past weekend, two loyal seniors made a trip that will be one of their most outstanding memories at Auburn. Clarkson Smith and Will Akins (Fall 15) led a group of sophomores to the gateway city of Kansas City, Missouri for the Sweet 16 tournament game. They departed on Thursday night with an overnight stop in Memphis, Tennessee, home of Fall 17’s own, Hays Kassen. While Hays prefers Memphis Barbeque over Kansas City, he knew that there was much more for him beyond West Tennessee’s crown city. The group pushed onward and finally reached Kansas City. Though the weather was unpleasantly chilly and they were insurmountably outnumbered by fans of the University of North Carolina, the group maintained its composure and cheered the Tigers on to a 97-80 victory. “What threw us off most was that Kansas City was actually in Missouri, and not Kansas”, said Jacob Vinson of Fall 17. “The 12-hour drive seems almost ‘syllabus week’ to the beast that will be the 18-hour drive to Minneapolis”, said Jake Awbrey after the Tigers defeated Kentucky in the Elite 8 to advance to the first Final Four in school history. Dixon Jones, Fall 17’s most legendary Historian asks, “Why not us?” and tells our office that, “We are not done yet.”
