Chapter Eternal: James H. Hefelfinger, Penn State ’66

CHAPTER ETERNAL — James H. Hefelfinger, Penn State ’66, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was best known to his friends as Hef.

Born April 25, 1947 at Lankenau Hospital, Jim lived on various Air Force bases before the family moved to Levittown in 1956. He was a football letterman and graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1965. He attended The Pennsylvania State University where he majored in Landscape Architecture and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Upon graduation Jim moved to various parts of the country before settling in Yardley, PA where he remained for almost 35 years.

Jim started his own architecture business in the late 1970s, James H. Hefelfinger + Associates. A perfectionist, Jim was influenced by the clean lines and simplicity of Frank Lloyd Wright. His passion for architecture was evident in his dedication to his work and clients.

Jim married Jacqueline Ann Masson of Springfield, PA on July 5, 1985. Together they raised their four children, Robert, Jill, Jaimie and Britt. Every spring Jim would coach his daughter’s PAA softball teams. He spent fall Saturdays watching his Nittany Lions. An avid skier, in the winter Jim took the family to ski resorts in New England.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Ann Hefelfinger of Yardley, PA; his four children, Robert Iannuzzi of Salem, MA; Jill Ferguson of Washington, DC; Jaimie Hefelfinger and Britt Hefelfinger both of Yardley; and his sister, Karen Dumin of Langhorne, PA, all of whom will greatly miss his constant humor and caring guidance.

In lieu of other remembrances, the family requests donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

A life celebration is planned for family and friends on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at Jericho Country Club in New Hope, PA.
