7th Annual Crawfish Boil for Wipe Out Kids Cancer

On March 30th Kappa Alpha held its 7th annual Crawfish Boil at the Greens of College Park Center. The event hosted carnival style games, inflatables, and live music for 500 guests in attendance. Over 1000 pounds of crawfish were served generating proceeds of $8,500 in support for Wipe Out Kids Cancer, an organization which helps fund research on pediatric cancer and assists affected families.

“They’re critical in advancing pediatric cancer research,” said Dr. Alisa Rich, CEO of Wipe of Kids Cancer, praising the group’s efforts, “there’s a deep understanding of the difficulty that a family goes through. They’re truly saving a child’s life.”

The chapter dedicated its success to the full participation of each brother and the involvement of the community. “The whole chapter is involved in making this event, from reaching out to sponsors to selling tickets. All members help out during the main event,” explained President Darwin Ramsey, “We involve mainly the campus community, but also the nearby Arlington community and local businesses, in making our event successful.”

Last year the chapter was awarded best philanthropic event in the Greek community. In response to the achievement, Darwin continued, “Crawfish boil has been one of most successful events and has a great potential to expand. I hope the future of our chapter will help carry it forward and continue to grow closer ties to our supporting organization, Wipe Out Kids Cancer.”

We would like to give special thanks to BOT Chairman Charles Tabangcora for providing additional footage of the event.
