Our past President, David Butter, recently received the prestigious Milton S. Carothers Ethical Courage Award from Florida State’s top honor society, Garnet and Gold Key. As a Community Outreach Facilitator and Community Ambassador, David Butter bridges the gap between campus and community. With an unusual eye for common ground, he works with students, staff, faculty, and America’s Second Harvest to fight hunger and feed hope not only in the Big Bend Region but also right here on our campus. David is a values-based leader with courage and conviction to face adaptive challenges in all of our communities. Favorite thing about FSU: “FSU has given me numerous opportunities to grow and develop as a student, but two of my favorite experiences during my time on campus have been working with our Dean of Students food pantry and being inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary. Working with our on-campus food pantry I gained a first-hand perspective on what food insecurity looks like on the collegiate level and what measures are being taken to combat hunger. On Homecoming weekend I was inducted into OΔK at FSU’s Alumni Association. Being inducted was not only an honor, but the induction ceremony was a fun experience because I was able to explore the President’s House and our Alumni Center.” What receiving this award means to David: “Rev. Carothers transformed our campus ministry into a safe, warm haven for whoever needed its services, and to receive this honor means a great deal to me because I look to represent FSU in the highest capacity every day. Living my values and demonstrating a strong sense of ethics is what I aspire to achieve in my leadership.” As always, ATO leads! Keep it up David!
