On Saturday, April 24, 90 of our members drove out to Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, MO for a brotherhood golf event. The event was organized by our Chaplain, Chris George, who put in lots of time and effort to make this event possible. This year was the first-ever DK Invitational, which honors our ATO brother, Drew King, who passed away earlier this year. Drew was one of the most respectful and kind men that we had in this house, so we were all glad that we got to honor him with this golf tournament. The DK Invitational was a long, fun day out on the golf course for everyone, as the first tee time was right around noon and the boys were playing all the way into the early evening. In the end, it was Dawson Owen and Tommy Geders that ended up winning the first-ever DK Invitational golf tournament. As a matter of fact, Dawson and Tommy also won last year’s ATOpen, which is what the golf tournament was called last year. Mick Deaver, a junior ATO, is hosting an additional ATO golf tournament this upcoming weekend, the BeStrong29 Tournament. Mick Deaver got in a hockey accident five years ago that paralyzed him. Since then, Mick and his family have been running the BeStrong29 foundation that aims to raise awareness and funds for spinal cord awareness and families that are affected by spinal cord injuries through grants, scholarships, research, and other ways that can help those who have been injured and their families. This weekend, the top two 2-man teams from each grade level that scored the best at the DK Invitational will form a team of four and compete against the other four-man teams at the BeStrong29 Tournament. Once again, Chris George did a tremendous job organizing the DK Invitational, and Mick Deaver’s BeStrong29 Tournament will be very competitive and lots of fun.
