Hilltop Hammocking
Maine - Beta Upsilon

Hilltop; the first-years’ stomping ground… For many of us, it had been a while since we had set foot up the Hill. Thoughts of 8am lectures, frigid walks across campus, and the trials of freshman year came to mind. Oh how we persevered, but not without the help of our older brothers. The time has come where it is now our opportunity to extend a hand to the freshman. “What questions do you still have about college? Have you joined any clubs? How can I help propel you through college?” In hopes of striking up these conversations we set up our hammocks along a trail at Hilltop. It wasn’t the main trail to the dining hall, but rather a little footpath that leads towards the volleyball pit among a thicket of trees. Still, many freshman found our nook and happily joined us for the evening. Here at Beta Upsilon, we hope they resonate with Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” because those of us who have followed the road that lead to ATO wouldn’t change a thing. “I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”
