Marine Gets Initiated
Kansas State - Delta Theta
By Bill Muir Jan 18, 2016
As a part of the Initiation of the Fall Pledge Class on January 15, 2016, a very special Brother was initiated: Brother Andrew B. Barnert was Specially-initiated into the Brotherhood seven years after he was originally a pledge. He returned from service in Afghanistan and Iraq, where he saw extensive action. Three years ago, the Delta Theta Board of Trustees approved the Special Initiation request of the Chapter for Andrew, which was to occur whenever he could return to the U.S. His father, Brother Ben Barnert, was eagerly awaiting for that day to arrive so that he could participate in his son’s initiation. Unfortunately, 2 and a half years ago Brother Ben Barnert died of a brain tumor at age 59. As Andrew’s Marine Corps End of Service was January 8th, he was available for Initiation with all 24 members of the Fall Pledge Class. His father’s Badge was presented to him by Delta Theta Trustees Chairman and National Secretary Bill Muir. Also present were Alumni Brothers Barry Hilton and John Mackaman, who were Chapter members during the time Ben was an undergraduate member.
