ATO skit takes the cake at Alphi Phi’s Eat Your Heart Out

Feb 18, 2011

KAPPA EPSILON (Pepperdine) — Students feasted their eyes and stomachs on Wednesday, Feb. 16 to enjoy Alpha Phi’s philanthropy.

Pepperdine sorority Alpha Phi held Eat Your Heart Out, their annual philanthropy in the Waves Café which gave students the opportunity to enjoy Bucca di Beppo as well as homemade desserts made by sorority members.

All proceeds will go to the Alpha Phi Foundation, which is geared towards funding programs with cardiac research and treatment.

The philanthropy is a nationwide event, which junior Cindy Peña says makes the philanthropy “one of the most consistent on campus.”

Last year the sorority raised more than 10,000 dollars and hosted more than 400 attendants, reported Alpha Phi president, junior Julia Steggerda.

This year they were hoping to raise between $12,000 to $14,000.

Besides the enjoyment of food, the philanthropy is full of other activities. All the fraternities present a skit that deals with the theme of cardiac health, which is judged by a panel of Alpha Phi alumni. After the skits, the sororities have a cake-decorating contest. The largest sums of proceeds are collected during an action for dates with women from participating sororities. Prize baskets are raffled throughout the evening.

Delta Gamma won overall for the sororities and Alpha Tau Omega won for their skit performance.
