ATO Returning to Southern California

Alpha Tau Omega is proud to announce the return to Southern California.

From our founding in 1865, ATO has always been more than just a fraternity — we were built on purpose to bring men together during a time of intense division in America. Our brotherhood is founded on eternal and immutable principles, and we’re here to lead, to serve, and to recognize true merit wherever found. We’re bringing those ideals back to University Park with intention, excellence, and vision.

Now more than ever, the college experience needs organizations that develop men into the leaders of tomorrow. Men who lead not just on campus, but for a lifetime. With your support, we’re building a chapter that reflects the best of ATO — and the best of Southern California.

Whether you’re a proud alumnus of the chapter or an ATO from another school now living in Los Angeles, we want you to be part of this moment. Your support and your belief in ATO can help create a lasting impact on the young men at University Park.

Recruitment Phase

The expansion team spends several weeks on campus building relationships and identifying high-caliber men who are ready to start something new. Through one-on-one meetings, student organization outreach, and strategic marketing, a high-quality pool of potential members is cultivated. The team looks for students who demonstrate leadership, integrity, and a desire to be part of a values-based brotherhood. Informational meetings, small group events, and personal invitations all support the formation of a strong founding class.

Nexus Installment

Once a critical mass of founding members has been recruited, the chapter moves into the next phase of development, the formal establishment of an ATO Nexus Installment. Officers are appointed and trained directly by National Staff, and the group is introduced to the expectations and responsibilities of self-governance. A Nexus Ceremony is held in partnership with the host institution to recognize the chapter publicly. Immediately following the Ceremony, members participate in retreats and leadership development activities, including The Birkman Method™ assessment, which helps define the chapter’s culture through a deeper understanding of individual strengths and needs.

Chartering

The final stage of the process is focused on preparation for chartering. Over the course of 12 to 18 months, the Nexus Installment works to meet the requirements to become a fully chartered ATO Chapter—growing its membership, refining operations, engaging in service, and contributing to the broader campus community. With continued support from National Headquarters staff and local volunteers, the chapter demonstrates excellence across key metrics. The chartering ceremony marks initiation of all Founding Fathers and the official recognition as a fully-chartered chapter of Alpha Tau Omega.
