Chapter Eternal: James L. Owsley, Colorado ’56

CHAPTER ETERNAL — James Lawrence Owsley, Colorado ’56, passed away on April 6, 2012, at the age of 77 in Aurora, Colo.

In an article from the Valley Courier:
He was born in Alamosa, Colo. on July 31, 1934, the son of Hartley and Luella Owsley. He graduated from Alamosa High School in 1952 and played basketball on the 1954-55 University of Colorado Final Four basketball team. In addition to playing basketball, he also joined Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity gaining many lifelong friendships.

After serving two years in the Army, he returned to Boulder and graduated in 1959 with a business degree. After college, he began a career in the brokerage business that spanned 35 years. Jim was also a Life Member of the Alamosa Elks Lodge. An avid sports fan, Jim particularly enjoyed watching the Broncos and the Rockies. He also loved golf, fishing and hunting, and was devoted to watching his sons and grandchildren play sports.

We’ll remember him for his sense of humor, his love of storytelling and a good party. He was a loving husband and father, who adored his grandchildren. Above all else he treasured his family and friends.

Survivors are his wife Sue, sons Jamie and Steven, daughter Lyndal Brookhart, and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Bud Owsley of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Charles Owsley of Alamosa, Colo.and sister Jackie Conville of Las Vegas, Nevada. Gifts in Jim’s memory may be made to the Colorado Alzheimer’s Association.
