Kentucky Taus awarded the Golden Matrix Cup

MU IOTA (Kentucky) — For the sixth year in a row, University of Kentucky students danced for 24 hours to raise money for children’s cancer research.

Nearly 700 students from more than 100 different student organizations participated in the 2011 DanceBlue marathon at Memorial Coliseum, raising $673,976.60 for the UK Pediatric Oncology Clinic, according to UK spokeswoman Katy Bennett. The effort topped last year’s $636,638.58.

The 24-hour no-sit, no-sleep dance marathon started at 8 p.m. Friday and wrapped up at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was awarded the 2011 Golden Matrix Cup for its combination of fund-raising and high spirits. For more information or to donate, go to danceblue.org.
