EPSILON GAMMA (Maryland) — PepsiCo announced Albert “Al” P. Carey, Maryland ’73, the CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages on Wednesday, September 14. Kindra K. Nooyi, Chairman and CEO reported the appointment is effective immediately. Carey will be responsible for all details related to the beverage businesses within the Americas.

Carey, 60, most recently served as the president and CEO of Frito-Lay North America. He is a 30-year vetran of PepsiCo and led Frito-Lay since 2006. Prior to his executive managerial positions within PepsiCo, he previously served as the president of PepsiCo sales.

“Al’s highly collaborative leadership style, deep knowledge of our beverage businesses in North America and his past leadership of our ‘Power of One’ strategy make him the right choice to lead this flagship business,” said Nooyi.  “I am looking forward to working with Al in his new role, and taking our beverage business in the Americas to new levels of success.”

Prior to working for PepsiCo, Carey was spotted soon after college by another influential US Corporation, Procter & Gamble. Carey’s leadership development with the Maryland track team and involvement as Alpha Tau Omega President were said to be a big reason P&G approached Carey.
