ATO Fraternity values the privacy of our members and donors. As such, we take steps to use your personal information only in ways that are compatible with this Privacy Policy. There are times we need information to provide services you request, and this statement of policy explains data collection and use in those situations.

Information Collection and Use

We will ask for information that personally identifies you or allows us to contact you only in specific situations. Generally, this information is requested when you join our organization, update your record in our database, make donations, place orders through the online store, complete forms or surveys, pay membership, insurance or event fees or request information. Sometimes you may provide information to our vendors in which case the information will be protected in accordance with their privacy policies.

Alpha Tau Omega considers an individual’s donor history to be private and does not share this detail with anyone outside of staff and volunteer leadership. However, Alpha Tau Omega does publicly recognize its donors in giving societies, which group donors within a band of giving. Donors may opt out of this public recognition at any time by requesting their giving remain anonymous.

We use “cookies” to collect information about you and your activity across our site. A cookie is a small piece of data that our website stores on your computer and accesses each time you visit, which serves to help us enhance your experience while using our site.

Communication Methods and Preferences

Email

As a membership organization, members are automatically opted in to receive email communications from us as part of their membership benefits. You may update your email preferences, controlling the types of email content you receive or unsubscribing from email communications, through the unsubscribe link at the bottom of ATO emails.

Texting

As a membership organization, members opt-in to receive text messages from us upon accessing the ATO Portal, as part of their membership benefits. These text messages may include updates, congratulations, and important information about our organization. However, if a member no longer wishes to receive these text messages, they may opt-out at any time by replying to the text message with the word “STOP.” Upon receiving the STOP request, the member is automatically opted out of future text communications.

Please note that opting out of our texting program may result in missing out on important updates and information. We encourage members to regularly check their email and other communication channels to stay informed about the latest news and events from our organization.

Use of Your Personal Information

We use your personal information for these primary reasons:

  • To help us create and deliver content most relevant to you.
  • To communicate special events and announcements.
  • To assist local chapters and their alumni communicate news, recruit volunteers and fundraise for chapter priorities including housing, scholarships, etc.

Security of Personal Information

ATO protects the security of your personal information and honors your choices for its intended use. We carefully guard your data from loss and misuse, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Requests for information by unauthorized parties follow a strict review process for release of information and must be for fraternity or foundation purposes only.

Information shared inside the organization is shared only on a need-to-know basis.

SMS Terms of Service 

  1. When opted-in, you will receive text messages from Alpha Tau Omega related to your membership.
  2. You can opt-out of this service at any time. Just text “STOP” to the phone number. If you want to join again, text “START” and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.
  3. If you are experiencing any issues, you can reply with the keyword “HELP”. Or, you can get help directly from us by emailing your dedicated Leadership Consultant.
  4. Carriers, such as AT&T, are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  5. As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. You will receive messages as needed to inform and/or assist in your elected chapter office position.  If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
