Walters receives Alan C. Rankin Award
May 6, 2011
The awards recognize outstanding members of the senior class who have contributed to the betterment of campus life. Individuals selected to receive the awards must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 (on a scale of 4.0) and have demonstrated dedicated membership and leadership ability in campus organizations as well as in the community.
There will be a story about each recipient in the commencement program and all four students will be recognized on stage at the ceremony.
“It was a big honor to receive it,” Walters said of the award, presented at the Outstanding Senior and Junior Awards banquet. “I had received the Richard G. Landini Outstanding Junior Award last year. It was nice to earn both of these honors in my college career. A great way to cap things off,” he added.
Walters, the son of David and Kim Walters and a 2007 graduate of Washington Township High School, was one of three students selected in 2007 for the Gongaware Scholarship Program, a four-year full-tuition insurance scholarship.
His campus activities and affiliations included Insurance Honor Corps, sales and negotiations for Scott College of Business and serving as project leader for Sales Career Exploration Event 2011. He is consistently named to the dean’s list and a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Walters served internships all four years and has accepted a position as a client executive/new business producer for Gibson Insurance Group of South Bend, with a focus in middle market commercial lines property and casualty insurance. He will graduate summa cum laude today and begin his new job May 17.
