Chapter Eternal: Steven Self, West Texas A&M ’72

CHAPTER ETERNAL — Steven “Steve” L. Self (West Texas A&M ’72), 89, of Amarillo passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jerry Davey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.

Steve was born July 29, 1922, in Silverton. He grew up and graduated from high school in Tulia. Steve was in the Navy during World War II and served at Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He then attended WT, where he earned a Masters Degree in English and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Steve married Fannie Mae Prichard in April of 1946. He taught school for 12 years, sold World Book Encyclopedias and then was a pharmacuetical sales representative for more than 40 years. After retirement, he and Fannie lived at the Canyon Country Club.

During his lifetime, Steve fought more than 55 bouts in the Golden Gloves, was an avid golfer and was a lifetime supporter of WT.

He was preceded in death by two daughters; and his wife Fannie.

Survivors include a daughter, Camile Brockman; two sons, Jim Self and Frank Self; a sister, Fama Coats; a great-grandchild; and three grandchildren.
