EPSILON DELTA (North Dakota State) — Fifteen women sponsored by various campus organizations competed in the Miss NDSU mock pageant last week on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Festival Concert Hall.

The Miss NDSU pageant, hosted and produced by Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, has been an annual tradition at NDSU for more than 10 years.

The theme for Miss NDSU 2011 was the popular television show “Glee.” The Miss NDSU show featured hosts Patrick Konzak and Casey Ressler (North Dakota State ’10) pretending to be relatives of Glee characters Will Schuester and Sue Sylvester.

After the opening act and film, the 15 contestants took the stage in turns showing their best lip sync, followed by a Bison pride round and a formal wear round. After the top eight contestants were announced, they were all asked a different interview question on stage.

After reviewing their answers and tallying any final donations made to support the top contestants, three finalists were announced: Erika Haglund, Savannah Lauf and Leah Johnson.

The final three contestants were then asked the same question one at a time, “What advice would you give to NDSU freshmen?”

After the contestants provided their answers, last year’s Miss NDSU winner, Laura Hall, took the stage holding the new crown. Over the volume of the crowd cheering for their favorite finalist, Hall placed the crown on Erika Haglund, a pharmacy major in her fourth professional year at NDSU

“My motivation to participate in Miss NDSU was to get out there and try something out of the ordinary,” Haglund said. “I really did have a lot of fun in the pageant, from preparing it to the night of the show.”
