BGSU Taus host play time with puppies for charity

The purpose of the event was to promote and raise money for the Humane Society.
The fraternity raised $208 and more than 300 people attended.
“I couldn’t believe so many people attended,” said Jeff Heidelberg, a member of the fraternity.
This is the fraternity’s third time hosting the event, which usually happens at the end of the spring semester before finals.
Members of the fraternity walked around in the “puppy play pin” as people entered to pet and play with them. Some of them were even asking people if they wanted to adopt the dogs. Two people from the Humane Society participated in the event as well.
While it was free to come and play with the puppies, they “highly encouraged donations,” Heidelberg said.
They raised $500 the first year and got rained out this past year, which is why the event was moved to the fall.
“Regardless of when we host this event, we hope it puts a smile on peoples’ faces,” Heidelberg said. “We wanted to put this event together to help raise money for the [Humane Society].”
The fraternity’s main goal is to help students relieve stress and play with cute puppies, said Brian Smith, another fraternity member.
“Puppies are a great way to make someone happy, so why not let people play with them?” Smith said.
Kim Huling, a board member of the Wood County Humane Society, was one of the two women who brought the dogs.
“We want to raise awareness and let people know what we are about and where we are located,” she said.
Junior Mel Dickey thought it was a great way to promote and raise money.
“I love dogs and these guys are great,” she said. “It’s a for a great cause, so I had to come.”
