Marshall ATO to host 5K for cancer research

Mar 4, 2013

MARSHALL (Theta Omicron)–Alpha Tau Omega, a fraternity at Marshall University, is hosting a 5K run and walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Ritter Park.

Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society, while the event is being done in honor of one of the fraternity brothers, who recently lost his mother to cancer.

Lake Morehouse, who is helping to organize the event, said Russell, Ky., native Tyler Cooksey also lost his father from pancreatic cancer in 2009.

Morehouse said Cooksey spent his first year at Marshall and joined the fraternity. He then transferred to the University of Kentucky. But he said Cooksey is coming back to Marshall for the fall semester.

Pre-registration for Going the Distance 5K Run and Walk can be done online at www.tristateracer.com. The cost is $20 before the event or $25 the day of the race. Registration will start at 8 a.m., and the race will start at 9 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for a variety of categories.
