JMU Hosts Third Annual Rock for R.A.K. Event

Oct 14, 2009

The Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at James Madison University held the third annual Rock for R.A.K event, which stands for Random Acts of Kindness.

The event featured six bands, a hot dog eating contest and a volleyball tournament where the winning team donated $500 to the charity of its choice.

Organizers say the event typically raises between $1,000 and $4,000.

Dan Bolen, Alpha Tau Omega’s Philanthropy chair, says, “This year, we really tried to incorporate a lot of different philanthropies throughout the campus. But, not so much to raise money, but to also raise awareness.”

Next semester, Alpha Tau Omega plans to raise money to send third graders at Spotswood Elementary to Monticello and Mount Vernon.
